Can you explain the BC Electrical Code?

The mandate of the BC the Safety Authority is to ensure that all electrical work completed by electrical contractors within the province of British Columbia is done in accordance with current regulations of the Safety Standards Act.

What size of electrical service should my home have?

Many older homes in BC have only 60-amp services. Most insurance companies (and the BC Electrical Code) requires a minimum of 100-amp electrical services for new construction. At Premium Electric, we recommend that residences be upgraded to a 200-amp service to accommodate any future electrical requirements. Only a licensed electrician should upgrade your electrical services to 200 amps.

Can I do my own electrical wiring?

This is not recommended since your insurance may be void it you encounter an electrical fire at any time in the future. The safety of your home and family should never be compromised. All electrical wiring must adhere to the BC electrical code and should only be completed by a licensed electrician.

How do I know if I need an electrical inspection?
